Cyrus & Selah got to visit for a day!!!

Leg Update 9-15-06

Well, I DID have to go back to the “treatment” center (wound care) and have my leg irritated by sharp objects again. It was painful, I acted like a wimp and I whined & complained WAY too much.

They did a culture on it as it was looking “suspicious” and the results showed that I DO have an infection. I am back on antibiotics. The “mean cream” (that stuff that eats away at dead tissue) did a good enough job that I don’t have to have it on THIS week, however it did too good of a job and began to break down my GOOD skin.

I’m trying out some new trial stuff the nurses just got – foam pads instead of gauze or other kinds of pads to cover the wound. I also have a silver laced tissue of sorts (kinda like gauze) that was stuffed into the wound that should help if fight off infections and help it heal faster. I get to “rate” this new “wound care/dressing” and let them know what I think of it. So far it’s pretty cool – I can keep it on for up to 7 days without changing it (weird), I am keeping it on for 3 days at a time as per doctor’s orders.

It hurts worse this week, but I think that is due to the sharp objects and the infection.

Prayers would be appreciated… for the family as well as me. It has been 6 weeks so far and I think it is starting to wear on the family (although they don’t show it).

Leg Update...

I had my 1-month check up today on my injury and things are healing, however I do have some spots that are “dead” and need to come off… SO for the next week I get to apply a neat cream (chemical) that will eat through the “bad” stuff and hopefully they won’t have to do what they did today again on next Wednesday… which was trying to get the pieces off with little sharp objects… I wish to say no more as it freaks me out just thinking back on it, and YES it sure did hurt even with the numbing agent that was applied.

AFTER my wound is completely done healing we will then look into a possible injury to the knee (they are thinking torn cartilage which could possibly cause another surgery in the near future) AND it is possible there is some sort of a break or other damage done to my ankle since it is still painful and the swelling around the ankle hasn’t gone down at all (not even a little bit) since day one. The foot is still swelling to uncomfortable proportions each afternoon/night and it is possible that this may stay like this for 6months to years… they really don’t have a clue as to how long it will take for the leg to figure out how to get the fluid back up and I may need to look into some “support hosiery” to keep the swelling to a minimum if it continues.

The doctor mentioned something about squeezing the foot to help the swelling down, but the alarming thoughts that went screaming through my head at that point of how badly that would hurt and how badly the person squeezing my foot would be hurting after I got my hands on them made it so I couldn’t really understand him…. LOL!!!

I have another appointment next week, hopefully I will know more then and will update at that point.
